A Day in the Life of a Radiologic Technologist

What it's a Technologist in Medical Imaging
A technologist in Diagnostic Imaging takes
radiographies to allow the doctor to make the diagnostic of a pathology or diseases. In this blog post, I am going to show you a typical day of a technologist in medical imaging.

The Place
Most of the technologists work in the hospitable environment. A technologist can work on the private, on the public, in doctor's office or in the laboratory.

The Context
An important thing to know about the job technologist in medical imaging it is that they spend all the day up. They walk to bring patients in their room or to go see the radiologist. Also, he often has to lift some patient to bring them on the radiology's table or just to replace them in their stretchers. The medical technician has several manners to protect  themselves, whether it is to protect of the X-ray or some contagious diseases which the patients can have.

The Function
Every day, the technologist receives requests for every patient where it is indicated what he has to X-ray and other information concerning the patient. Then, the technologist goes see the patient and makes him the necessary preparation for the examination that the doctor asked him to do. Afterward, he uses the appropriates machines to take the radiographies. Furthermore, the technologist makes sure that the images are beautiful and that we see all which was asked and send them to the doctor so he can make the diagnostic. In a day, the medical technician has to redo the same thing for all the patients on the schedule and when he has no more patient he has to do the cleaning in these papers and cleans the radiography's room. It's important to have exact information concerning which body part we have scan for the diagnosis.

The Abilities to Be a Good Technologist
The technologist must understand how the machines work to be able to take the images properly. The health is paramount to this job because the technologist works all day up and work really hard.

The Schedule
Most technologists work 8 hours per day, but sometimes they have to stay longer because there may be an accident or another technologist can arrive late so he has to work more hours. When you are a technologist you can work during the day, the evening or during the night. Furthermore, medical technician can work during the week-end.

How to Have a Professional Development

Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists

The Canadian association of medical radiation technologists (CAMRT) was based in 1942. This association includes radiological, nuclear medicine, magnetic resonance imaging technologists and radiation therapists.  The president of de CAMRT is Deborah Murley and she occupies this post since January, 2014. She studied at the Prince Edward Island. The Chief Executive Officer of the CAMRT is François couillard and he got this post on February 2013. The committees of CAMRT are made by volunteers.

The mission of the CAMRT is to make sure that the technologists have the skills to make their job and to take care of the patients. The CAMRT encourage the values as the integrity, the innovation and the collaboration. This assoiation makes sure of the protection of the patients and the staff.

This website is related to my field of study because it's relate to Diagnostic Imaging and because I'm going to work with the members of this association. We will be co-worker.

How to use the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists to have a professional development

In this video, I will do a walkthrough demonstrating how to have a professional development with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists website.

Reasons to Study in Diagnostic Imaging

CC BY-SA 3.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=69748

Hi, my name is Charlotte  and I am finishing my second year of study in Diagnostic Imaging in Anhuntsic College. This program lasts 3 years, wich divided into two. Two years of intensive course at the school and on one year of training course. After that, there is a big exam of what yo lurned in the 3 past years. And only if you succeed the exam you can have a diploma and a licence. You can finally be a diagnostic radiology technologist. In a typical day of a technologist, he is going to take xray's images and analyze them so that it is visually acceptable for the radiologist and he is going to  take care of patients. In the text which follows, I am going to give you 3 good reasons for becoming a technologist in Diagnostic Imaging.

1. You can quickly make money

One positive thing to become a technologist in Diagnostic Imaging it's because the studies owed only 3 years. Because of this fact, you can have a full-time job faster and thus make more money faster. Something nice of making money earlier it's because you can put some money aside and that give you the chance to save money. If you safe enough money you are going to be able to have as much money as a person who made university studies and to make the same activities as them without depriving you. Or for somebody who has debts, he can pay then faster and start to put some money aside to prevent certain unforeseen. Finally, we all know that having money it's nice! So why not make more money faster?

2. You can work with the puplic

When you work as a technologist in Diagnostic Imaging you have to work with the public. This is a positive thing for the people who like me don't like to stay behing a computer all day long and only see people when you go to the toilet or during the lunch. In this job you have to talk to the patient, to take care of them, to position them for the image. All this to say that we have to have a certain closeness with the patient and we don't have to be afraid of being with different types of people.  Another good thing of working with the public it's that sometimes the patient can talk about his life and just the fact of listenning to them give them more self-esteem and it's really gratifying for the technologist.

3. You can help people

When you are a thechnologist in Diagnostic Imaging you take an important place when comes the time to make the diagnosis of certain pathology. With the help of the x-ray we can take images of the place wich asking us to photograph. So, the radiologist can make a diagnostic and give the good treatment to the patient. To be sure to have the best image possible, we have to prepare the exam room before the patient arrive in the room and to choose the good exam for the request we have for this patient. After we have to place the patient in the best position to have the best view of the anatomy and finally we have to make sure we can clearly see all the structures in the image. Aslo, we have to make sure the patient is comfortable and to give him everything he need if maybe he want to vomit or just simply if he is cold.

Finally, Diagnostic Imaging is the best program to do because you can have a good wage earlier, you can have a contact with the public and you can make a difference in the diagnostic of a pathology. It staid only in you to decide if you want to join this program!!
